I will make the one who overcomes, a pillar in the temple of my God, and he will not go out from it anymore. I will write on him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is the New Jerusalem. This city comes down out of heaven from my God. I will write my new name on him.

The twelve gates were twelve pearls. Each individual gate was one pearl. The street of the city was pure gold, as transparent glass. I saw no temple there: for the Jehovah God the Almighty and the Lamb are the temple. The city did not need the sun or the moon to shine on it. For the glory of God and of the Lamb was its light. The nations will walk by means of its light. The kings of the earth bring their glory into it. Its gates will not close in the daytime and there will be no night there. They will bring the glory of the nations into it. Nothing impure will ever enter it. The shameful and deceitful will not enter. Only those who are written in the Lamb's book of life will enter.
