For I have eaten ashes like bread, and mingled my drink with weeping, because of thine indignation and thy wrath. For thou have taken me up, and cast me away.
If his sons forsake my law, and walk not in my ordinances, if they break my statutes, and keep not my commandments, then I will visit their transgression with the rod, and their iniquity with stripes,
For we are consumed in thine anger, and in thy wrath are we troubled. Thou have set our iniquities before thee, our secret sins in the light of thy countenance. For all our days are passed away in thy wrath. We bring our years to an end as a sigh.
Thou answered them, O LORD our God. Thou were a God who forgave them, though thou took vengeance on their doings.
