"However, {take care} for yourself and watch your inner self closely, so that you do not forget the things that your eyes have seen, so that they do not slip from your mind all the days of your life; and you shall make them known to your children and to {your grandchildren}.
And you shall recite them to your children, and you shall talk about them at [the time of] your living in your house and at [the time of] your going on the road and at [the time of] your lying down and at [the time of] your rising [up].
And you shall teach them to your children by talking about them when you sit in your house and when you travel on the road and when you lie down and when you get up.
And [then] their children, who have not known, they [too] may hear, and they may learn to revere Yahweh their God all the days {that you live} on the land that you [are] crossing the Jordan {to get there} to take possession of it."
For he established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our ancestors to teach to their children,
[To] whom will he teach knowledge, and [to] whom will he explain [the] message? Those who are weaned from milk, [those] taken from [the] breast?

Folly is bound up in the heart of a boy; [the] rod of discipline will drive it from him.
Discipline your child, for there is hope, but on his destruction do not set your desire.
Do not withhold discipline from a child, if you will beat him with the rod, he will not die.
He who withholds his rod hates his child, but he who loves him {gives him} discipline.

And you shall recite them to your children, and you shall talk about them at [the time of] your living in your house and at [the time of] your going on the road and at [the time of] your lying down and at [the time of] your rising [up].
"When your child asks you in the future, {saying}, 'What [is the meaning of] the legal provisions and the rules and the regulations that Yahweh our God commanded for you?'
then his father and his mother shall take hold of him, and they shall bring him out to the elders of his city and to the gate of his {town},
