Thematic Bible: Subverted by jeroboam

And Jeroboam said in his heart, Now the kingdom will return to the house of David. If this people go up to offer sacrifices in the house of LORD at Jerusalem, then the heart of this people will turn again to their lord, even to Rehoboam king of Judah. And they will kill me, and return to Rehoboam king of Judah. Whereupon the king took counsel, and made two calves of gold. And he said to them, It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem. And he set the one in Bethel, and the other he put in Dan. And this thing became a sin, for the people went [to worship] before the one, even to Dan. And he made houses of high places, and made priests from among all the people who were not of the sons of Levi. And Jeroboam ordained a feast in the eighth month, on the fifteenth day of the month, like the feast that is in Judah, and he went up to the altar. So he did in Bethel, sacrificing to the calves that he had made. And the priests and the Levites who were in all Israel resorted to him out of all their border. For the Levites left their suburbs and their possession, and came to Judah and Jerusalem. For Jeroboam and his sons cast them off, that they should not execute the priest's office to LORD. And he appointed priests for him for the high places, and for the he-goats, and for the calves which he had made.
