Thematic Bible: Talebearers

Speech/communication » Talebearers
He who goes about as a gossip reveals secrets,
But he who is trustworthy and faithful keeps a matter hidden.
The words of a whisperer (gossip) are like dainty morsels [to be greedily eaten];
They go down into the innermost chambers of the body [to be remembered and mused upon].
He who goes about as a gossip reveals secrets;
Therefore do not associate with a gossip [who talks freely or flatters].
For lack of wood the fire goes out, and where there is no whisperer, contention ceases. As coals are to hot embers and as wood to fire, so is a quarrelsome man to inflame strife. The words of a whisperer or slanderer are like dainty morsels or words of sport [to some, but to others are like deadly wounds]; and they go down into the innermost parts of the body [or of the victim's nature].
