I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent.

the women should keep silent in the churches. For they are not permitted to speak, but should be submissive, as even the law says. If they desire to learn anything, let them ask their own husbands at home; for it is shameful for a woman to speak in church.
