When morning came, all the chief priests and the elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death.

At that very time some Pharisees came, and said to him, "Get away from here, for Herod wants to kill you."
But those tenants said to one another, 'This is the heir. Come, let us kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.'
Pilate said to them, "Then what shall I do with Jesus who is called Christ?" They all said, "Let him be crucified!"
And he said, "Why, what evil has he done?" But they shouted all the more, "Let him be crucified!"
And they cried out again, "Crucify him!" And Pilate said to them, "Why, what evil has he done?" But they shouted all the more, "Crucify him!"
Then he said to them the third time, "Why, what evil has he done? I have found in him no crime deserving death. I will therefore chastise him and release him."
When the chief priests and officers saw him, they cried out, "Crucify him, crucify him!" Pilate said to them, "You take him and crucify him, for I find no fault in him."
But they cried out, "Away with him! Away with him! Crucify him!" Pilate said to them, "Shall I crucify your King?" The chief priests answered, "We have no King but Caesar."
Then Jesus said to them, "You will all fall away because of me this night; for it is written, 'I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.'
And Jesus said to them, "You will all fall away; for it is written: 'I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.'
