No contestant in the games is crowned, unless he competes according to the rules.
Any man who enters an athletic contest practices rigid self-control in training, only to win a wreath that withers, but we are in to win a wreath that never withers. So that is the way I run, with no uncertainty as to winning. That is the way I box, not like one that punches the air. But I keep on beating and bruising my body and making it my slave, so that I, after I have summoned others to the race, may not myself become unfit to run.
Do you not know that in a race the runners all run, but only one can get the prize? You must run in such a way that you can get the prize.
Physical training, indeed, is of some service, but religion is of service for everything, for it contains a promise for the present life as well as the future.
Or, are you not conscious that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit that is in you, whom you have as a gift from God? Furthermore, you are not your own, for you have been bought and actually paid for. So you must honor God with your bodies.
Now for the time being no discipline seems to be pleasant; it is painful; later on, however, to those who are trained by it, it yields the fruit of peace which grows from upright character. So tighten the grip of your slipping hands; stiffen the stand of your knocking knees; and keep your feet in straight paths, so that limbs may not be dislocated, but instead be cured.
I have fought the fight for the good, I have run my race, I have kept faith.

I am pressing onward toward the goal, to win the prize to which God through Jesus Christ is calling us upward.
