Persevere in prayer, watching in it with thanksgiving;

Blessed are those bondmen whom the lord on coming shall find watching; verily I say unto you, that he will gird himself and make them recline at table, and coming up will serve them. And if he come in the second watch, and come in the third watch, and find them thus, blessed are those bondmen.

So then do not let us sleep as the rest do, but let us watch and be sober; for they that sleep sleep by night, and they that drink drink by night; but we being of the day, let us be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as helmet the hope of salvation;

Be vigilant, watch. Your adversary the devil as a roaring lion walks about seeking whom he may devour.
