But that servant knowing the will of his lord, and not preparing or doing according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. But the one not knowing, and doing things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few. But to every one to whom much is given, much will be required of him: and to whom they commit much, of him they will ask the more.

And in season he sent a servant to the husbandmen that they might give to him of the fruit of the vineyard, and the husbandmen beating him, sent him away empty. And he proceeded to send to them another servant, and they beating and dishonoring him sent him away empty.

And they continued to strike His head with a reed, and spit on Him, and putting down their knees worshiped Him.

And they obeyed him, and having called the apostles, beating them, they commanded them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and sent them away.

And the crowd stood up together against them: and the magistrates tearing off their garments, commanded the lictors to beat them with rods. And having laid many stripes on them, they cast them into prison, commanding the jailer to keep them safely: who, having received such a charge, cast them into the interior prison, and fastened their feet into the wood.
