On the next day, a great multitude that had come to the feast, hearing that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, took branches of palmtrees, and went forth to meet him, crying aloud, Hosanna! blessed is he who cometh in the name of the Lord, even the king of Israel! "Fear not, daughter of Zion! lo! thy king cometh, sitting on an asss colt." These things his disciples did not understand at the first; but when Jesus had been glorified, then they remembered that these things were written of him, and that they had done these things to him. The multitude therefore that was with him when he called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead bore witness. For this cause also the multitude met him, because they had heard that he had wrought, this sign. The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, Ye see that ye effect nothing; o! the world hath gone after him.

Then therefore Pilate took Jesus and scourged him. And the soldiers platted a crown of thorns, and put it on his head, and put on him a purple robe, and approached him and said, Hail, king of the Jews! and they gave him blows on the face.

These will make war with the Lamb; and the Lamb will overcome them, because he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they who are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.

And he hath on his garment and on his thigh a name written: KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.
