and the scripture was fulfilled, saying, And Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the friend of God.

When the time of the promise which God made with Abraham drew nigh, the people increased and multiplied in Egypt,

and thus having waited long, he received the promise.

to execute mercy with our fathers, and remember His holy covenant, the oath which He swore to Abraham our father:

neither are the children all the seed of Abraham; but in Isaac shall thy seed be called; that is the children of the flesh the same are not the children of God; but the children of the promise are counted for the seed.

And He gave him the covenant of circumcision; and so he begat Isaac, and circumcised him on the eighth day; and Isaac, Jacob; and Jacob, the twelve patriarchs.

Ye are the sons of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with our fathers, saying to Abraham, In thy seed shall the families of the earth be truly blessed.

But the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel to Abraham beforehand, That in thee shall all the Gentiles be blessed. Therefore those who are of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham.
