Now as a great crowd was coming together and people were coming to Him from one town after another, He said by way of a story: "A sower went out to sow his seed. As he was sowing, some of the seed fell along the path, and were trodden down, and the wild birds ate them up. Another portion of them fell upon the rock, and as soon as they sprang up, they withered, because they had no moisture.
As He saw a fig tree by the roadside, He came to it but found on it nothing but leaves, and said to it, "Never again shall a fig grow on you!" And the fig tree at once withered up. When the disciples saw it, they were dumbfounded, and asked, "How is it that the fig tree withered up all at once?"
In the morning as they were passing along, they noticed that the fig tree was withered, clear down to its roots. And Peter remembered about it, and said to Him, "Look, Teacher! The fig tree which you cursed has withered!"
