Jehovah your God will drive out these nations before you little by little. You will not be able to put an end to them quickly. This is because the wild beasts are too numerous (and will multiply) around you.

Jehovah said to Joshua: You are old and advanced in years. There still remains much land to be possessed.

I will drive them a few at a time, until there are enough of you to take possession of the land.

Joshua sent men from Jericho to Ai, which is beside Beth-aven, on the east side of Bethel. He spoke to them: Go up and spy on the country. And the men went up and spied on Ai.
