For out of much affliction and distress of heart, I wrote to you with many tears: not that you might be grieved, but that you might know the love which I have more abundantly for you.

That I have great sorrow and unceasing grief in my heart; for I could wish my self to be accursed from Christ, for my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh;

And, indeed, he was sick near to death; but God had mercy on him, and not on him only, but on me also, that I might not have sorrow upon sorrow.
