When he said this, one of the attendants who stood near struck him and said, "Is that the way you answer the high priest?"
and made a wreath of thorns and put it on his head, and they put a stick in his hand, and knelt down before him in mockery, saying, "Long live the king of the Jews!"
They answered, "If he were not a criminal, we would not have turned him over to you."
And when they had finished making sport of him, they took off the cloak, and put his own clothes on him, and led him away to be crucified.

But the high priests and the elders prevailed on the crowd to ask for Barabbas, and to have Jesus put to death. And the governor answered, "Which of the two do you want me to release for you?" They said, "Barabbas!"
There they crucified him, with two others, one on each side and Jesus in the middle.
