Now therefore the sword shall never depart from thy house, because thou have despised me, and have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be thy wife. Thus says LORD, Behold, I will raise up evil against thee out of thine own house. Give heed to me, O LORD, and hearken to the voice of those who contend with me.

Because, although knowing God, they did not glorify him as God, nor were they thankful, but became vain in their reasonings and their heart was darkened without understanding.
