But the Pharisees and the lawyers rejected the counsel of God as to themselves, not having been immersed by him.

And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, tempting Him, saying, "Teacher, by doing what shall I inherit eternal life?"

And He said, "Woe to you lawyers, also! because ye burden men with burdens hard to be borne, and ye yourselves touch not the burdens with one of your fingers!

And Agrippa said to Paul, "You are permitted to speak in your own behalf." Then Paul, stretching forth his hand, was making his defense:

Dare any one of you, having a matter against another, go to law before the unrighteous, and not before the saints?

Diligently send forward Zenas the lawyer and Apollos, that nothing may be lacking to them.

And He said to him, "You answered right; do this, and you shall live." But he, wishing to justify himself, said to Jesus, "And who is my neighbor?" And Jesus, answering, said, "A certain man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among robbers; who, both stripping him and inflicting blows, went away, leaving him half dead. And by chance, a certain priest was going down that way; and, seeing him, he passed by on the opposite side. And, in like manner, a Levite also, coming to the place, and seeing him, passed by on the opposite side. But a certain Samaritan, going on his way, came down to him; and, seeing him, he was moved with compassion; and, coming to him, he bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine; and, setting him on his own beast, he brought him to an inn, and took care of him. And, on the morrow, taking out two denaries, he gave them to the host, and said, 'Take care of him; and whatsoever you expend additional, I, when I return, will repay you.' Which, therefore, of these three seems to you to have become neighbor of him who fell among the robbers?" And he said, "He that dealt kindly with him." And Jesus said to him, "Go, and do likewise."

And one of the lawyers, answering, says to Him, "Teacher, in saying these things, Thou insultest us also!" And He said, "Woe to you lawyers, also! because ye burden men with burdens hard to be borne, and ye yourselves touch not the burdens with one of your fingers! "Woe to you! because ye build the tombs of the prophets, and your fathers killed them.read more.
Consequently, ye are witnesses, and consent to the works of your fathers; because they, indeed, killed them, and ye build their tombs. On this account also the wisdom of God said, 'I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them will they slay, and some will they persecute; that the blood of all the prophets, which has been shed from the founding of the world, may be required of this generation??51 from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zachariah who perished between the altar and the house??ea, I say to you, it shall be required of this generation.' But the Pharisees, hearing that He silenced the Sadducees, were collected together; and one of them, a lawyer, asked a question, tempting Him: "Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?"read more.
And He said to him, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. A second like it is this: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments hangs the whole law, and the prophets."

and one of them, a lawyer, asked a question, tempting Him:

Agree with your adversary quickly, while you are with him in the way; lest perhaps the adversary deliver you to the judge, and the judge deliver you to the officer, and you be cast into prison.
