Moses went back to Jethro his father-in-law and said to him, "Please let me go back to my brothers in Egypt to see whether they are still alive." And Jethro said to Moses, "Go in peace."
And they told him, "Joseph is still alive, and he is ruler over all the land of Egypt." And his heart became numb, for he did not believe them.
And Israel said, "It is enough; Joseph my son is still alive. I will go and see him before I die."
Israel said to Joseph, "Now let me die, since I have seen your face and know that you are still alive."
So they tied sackcloth around their waists and put ropes on their heads and went to the king of Israel and said, "Your servant Ben-hadad says, 'Please, let me live.'" And he said, "Does he still live? He is my brother."
They replied, "The man questioned us carefully about ourselves and our kindred, saying, 'Is your father still alive? Do you have another brother?' What we told him was in answer to these questions. Could we in any way know that he would say, 'Bring your brother down'?"
And he inquired about their welfare and said, "Is your father well, the old man of whom you spoke? Is he still alive?"
And Joseph said to his brothers, "I am Joseph! Is my father still alive?" But his brothers could not answer him, for they were dismayed at his presence.
They said, "Your servant our father is well; he is still alive." And they bowed their heads and prostrated themselves.
Of those men who went to spy out the land, only Joshua the son of Nun and Caleb the son of Jephunneh remained alive.
And Elijah took the child and brought him down from the upper chamber into the house and delivered him to his mother. And Elijah said, "See, your son lives."
But Paul went down and bent over him, and taking him in his arms, said, "Do not be alarmed, for his life is in him."
As for the rest of the beasts, their dominion was taken away, but their lives were prolonged for a season and a time.
Though I scattered them among the nations, yet in far countries they shall remember me, and with their children they shall live and return.
For this we declare to you by a word from the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep.
