for there shall rise up false Christs, and false prophets, who shall shew great signs and prodigies, so as to deceive, if possible, even the elect.

But there was before in the city a man named Simon practising magic and bewitching the people of Samaria, giving out that he was some great person. Whom they all greatly regarded, from the lest to the greatest, saying, This man is as the great power of God. And they were attentive to him, because he had for a considerable time astonished them by his magic arts.

And he doth great wonders, so that even maketh fire to come down from heaven to earth in the sight of men; and deceiveth those that dwell on the earth,

for they are the spirits of demons, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to bring them together to the battle of that great day of God almighty.

And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet, who had wrought signs before him, by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast, and those who worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into the lake of fire burning with brimstone.
