and he continued to speak courageously in the name of the Lord, and to speak and debate with the Greek-speaking Jews. But they kept trying to murder him.
But the Jews stirred up the devout women of high rank and the men of first rank in town, and so started a persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and drove them out of their district.
And so when there was a movement on the part of both the heathen and the Jews, along with their authorities, to insult and stone them,
But some Jews came from Antioch and Iconium, and won the crowds by persuasion, and they stoned Paul, and dragged him outside the town, supposing he was dead.
The crowd also joined in the attack upon them, and the chiefs of the police court had them stripped and flogged.
While Gallio was governor of Greece, the Jews unanimously attacked Paul and one day brought him before the court,
for a tremendous crowd of people kept following them and shouting, "Away with him!"
They listened to him until he said this, and then all at once they shouted, "Away with such a fellow from the earth! He is certainly not fit to live!"
Since the dispute kept growing hotter and hotter, the colonel became alarmed that Paul might be torn in pieces by them, and so ordered the army to march down and take him out of their hands and bring him back to the barracks.
We have worked hard with our own hands for a living. When abused by people, we bless them. When persecuted, we patiently bear it.
always being persecuted, but not deserted; always getting a knockdown, but never a knockout;
for the sake of which I am suffering hardships even to the extent of wearing chains as though I were a criminal. But God's message is not in chains.
