The Israelites said to them, "If only we had died by the Lord's hand in the land of Egypt, when we sat by pots of meat and ate all the bread we wanted. Instead, you brought us into this wilderness to make this whole assembly die of hunger!"

But Pharaoh asked him, "What do you lack here with me for you to want to go back to your own country?" "Nothing," he replied, "but please let me leave."
Seven years of great abundance are coming throughout the land of Egypt.
Let Pharaoh do this: Let him appoint overseers over the land and take one-fifth [of the harvest] of the land of Egypt during the seven years of abundance.
During the seven years of abundance the land produced outstanding harvests.
Then the seven years of abundance in the land of Egypt came to an end,
So Joseph stored up grain in such abundance-like the sand of the sea-that he stopped measuring it because it was beyond measure.
Get your father and your households, and come back to me. I will give you the best of the land of Egypt, and you can eat from the richness of the land.'
Is it not enough that you brought us up from a land flowing with milk and honey to kill us in the wilderness? Do you also have to appoint yourself as ruler over us?
