Matthew 27:23-27

But he said, [No]; for what evil has he done? And they cried more vehemently, saying, Let him be crucified. And Pilate seeing that he accomplished nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, took water and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this man; see you to it. The Jews answered him, We have a law, and by our law he ought to die because he made himself the Son of God. When therefore Pilate heard this charge he was more afraid, and entered into the Praetorium again, and said to Jesus, Whence are you? But Jesus gave him no answer. Pilate said to him, Do you not speak to me? Do you not know that I have power to release you, and I have power to crucify you? Jesus answered, You would have had no power against me if it had not been given you from above; therefore he that delivered me to you has a greater sin. From that time Pilate sought to release him; but the Jews cried, saying, If you release this man you are not a friend of Caesar; every one who makes himself a king speaks against Caesar. Then Pilate hearing these words led Jesus out, and sat on the tribunal, in a place called the Pavement, but in Hebrew, Gabbatha.

Matthew 14:3-11

Mark 6:17-28

For Herod had sent and taken John, and, put him bound in prison on account of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife, because he had married her. For John said to Herod, It is not lawful for you to have your brother's wife. And Herodias was displeased with him, and wished to kill him, but was not able. read more.
For Herod feared John, knowing that he was a righteous and holy man, and he preserved him, and hearing him, did many things, and heard him gladly. And she went out and said to her mother, What shall I ask? And she said, The head of John the Baptist. And coming in immediately with haste to the king, she asked, saying, I wish you to give me immediately on a plate the head of John the Baptist. And the king was extremely sorry, but on account of the oaths, and those reclining with him, he was not willing to refuse her. And the king immediately sending an executioner, commanded him to bring his head. And he went out and beheaded him in the prison, and brought his head on a plate, and gave it to the girl, and the girl gave it to her mother.
