So, Jesus said, "Leave her alone. Let her keep [the rest of] it for [use on] the day of my burial.

For in the act of pouring this perfume on my body she was preparing it for my burial.

So, they took Jesus' body and wrapped it in linen cloths, with spices, according to customary Jewish burial practices.

He stooped down and looked inside [the cave-like tomb] and saw the linen cloths lying there [i.e., these were wrappings used to hold embalming spices against the body], but he did not go in. Then Simon Peter, who had been following him, also arrived and went [straight] into the cave-like tomb and saw the linen cloths lying there. Now the cloth that had been around Jesus' head was not lying with the [other] linen cloths, but was rolled up by itself.

She has done what she could. She has applied this aromatic oil to my body in anticipation of my burial.

Then He went near the casket and touched it; [immediately] the pallbearers stopped. Jesus said, "Young man, I tell you, get up."
