Why do the wicked live, become old, yea, grow mighty in power? Their seed is established with them in their sight, and their offspring before their eyes. Their houses are safe from fear, nor is the rod of God upon them.read more.
Their bull breeds, and does not fail. Their cow brings forth safely, and does not miscarry. They send forth their little ones like a flock, and their children dance. They sing to the timbrel and harp, and rejoice at the sound of the pipe. They spend their days in prosperity, and in a moment they go down to Sheol.

All this I have seen in my days of vanity. There is a righteous man who perishes in his righteousness, and there is a wicked man who prolongs [his life] in his evil-doing.

LORD, how long shall the wicked, how long shall the wicked triumph?

How often is it that the lamp of the profane is put out, that their calamity comes upon them, that [God] distributes sorrows in his anger,

The earth is given into the hand of the wicked. He covers the faces of the judges of it. If not [he], who then is it?

For I was envious of the arrogant when I saw the prosperity of the wicked. For there are no pangs in their death, but their strength is firm. They are not in trouble as [other] men, nor are they plagued like [other] men.read more.
Therefore pride is as a chain around their neck. Violence covers them as a garment. Their eyes stand out with fatness. They have more than heart could wish. They scoff, and in wickedness utter oppression. They speak loftily. They have set their mouth in the heavens, and their tongue walks through the earth.

Thou are righteous, O LORD, when I contend with thee. Yet I would reason the case with thee. Why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why are all those at ease who deal very treacherously?

There is a vanity which is done upon the earth, that there are righteous men to whom it happens according to the work of the wicked, again, there are wicked men to whom it happens according to the work of the righteous. I said that

Is it good to thee that thou should oppress, that thou should despise the work of thy hands, and shine upon the counsel of the wicked?

Thou who are of purer eyes than to behold evil, and who cannot look on perverseness, why do thou look upon those who deal treacherously, and hold thy peace when the wicked man swallows up the man who is more righteous than he,

And I will give it into the hands of the strangers for a prey, and to the wicked of the earth for a spoil, and they shall profane it.

Are there yet treasures of wickedness in the house of the wicked, and a scant measure that is abominable?

And now we call the proud happy. Yea, those who work wickedness are built up. Yea, they challenge God, and escape.

that the triumphing of the wicked is short, and the joy of the profane but for a moment?

When the wicked spring as the grass, and when all the workers of iniquity flourish, it is that they shall be destroyed forever,
