For we who have believed are being admitted to that rest, just as He has said: "As in my anger I took oath, they shall not be admitted to my rest," although God's works had been completed at the creation of the world. For somewhere He speaks of the seventh day: "On the seventh day God rested from all His works";

For if Joshua had really given them rest, He would not afterward have been speaking of another day.

So a sabbath of rest is still awaiting God's people.

Then I heard a voice from heaven say, "Write: 'Blessed are the dead who from this time die as Christians.'" "Yes," says the Spirit, "let them rest from their toils, for the things they have done are going with them."

So He said to him, "I solemnly say to you, this very day you will be in paradise with me."

Then he showed me a river of living water, clear as crystal, which continued to flow from the throne of God and of the Lamb down the middle of the city's Broadway. On both sides of the river grew the tree of life, which bore twelve kinds of fruit, yielding a different kind each month, and its leaves contained the remedy to cure the nations.

indeed, it is right for God to repay with crushing sorrows those who cause you these crushing sorrows, and to give rest to you who are being crushed with sorrows, along with us, at the unveiling of our Lord Jesus Christ from heaven, with His mighty angels

So let us fear that when the promise for us to be admitted to His rest is still remaining valid some one of you may be found to have missed it. For we have had the good news told to us as well as they, but the message heard did them no good, because they were not by faith made one with those who heeded it. For somewhere He speaks of the seventh day: "On the seventh day God rested from all His works"; while in this passage again He says: "They shall not be admitted to my rest." Since then it still remains that some are being admitted to it and that those who first had the good news told to them were not admitted because of disobedience, He again fixes a definite day, saying long afterward through David, as has been quoted: "If you but hear His voice, you must not harden your hearts." For if Joshua had really given them rest, He would not afterward have been speaking of another day. So a sabbath of rest is still awaiting God's people. For whoever is admitted into God's rest himself has rested from his works, just as God did. So let us do our best to be admitted to that rest, so that not one of us may fail through the same sort of disobedience.

and He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no death any longer, no sorrow, no crying, no pain. The first order of things has passed away."

For they cannot die again. They are like the angels, and since they are reborn in the resurrection, are children of God.

Not only that but this too, we ourselves who enjoy the Spirit as a foretaste of the future, even we ourselves, keep up our inner groanings while we wait to enter upon our adoption as God's sons at the redemption of our bodies.

After that comes the end, when He will turn the kingdom over to God His Father, when He will put an end to all other government, authority, and power;

They will never again be hungry or thirsty, and never again will the sun strike them, or any scorching heat, because the Lamb who is in the center of the throne will be their Shepherd, and God will wipe every tear from their eyes."

No longer will there be anything that has a curse on it. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and His slaves will worship Him,

So let us do our best to be admitted to that rest, so that not one of us may fail through the same sort of disobedience.
