And gathering the people unto him, he began to say, This is an evil generation: they seek a sign, and no sign shall be given it but the sign of Jonah the prophet.
And he said also to the people, When ye see the cloud rising out of the west, straightway ye say, A shower comes, and so it is. And when the south wind blows, ye say, There will be heat, and it comes to pass. Ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky and of the earth; but how is it that ye do not discern this time?
And when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceeding glad, for he was desirous to see him of a long season because he had heard many things of him, and he hoped to see some sign done by him.
Then the Jews answered and said unto him, What sign showest thou unto us, seeing that thou doest these things?
Then Jesus said unto him, Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe.
They said therefore unto him, What sign showest thou then that we may see and believe thee? what dost thou work?
