And the Pharisees and Sadducees, coming near, tempting Him, asked Him to show them a sign from the heaven; and He, answering, said to them, "When it is evening, ye say, 'It will be fair, for the heaven is red;' and in the morning, 'Today, a tempest; for red is the overcast heaven.' An evil and adulterous generation is seeking after a sign; and no sign will be given to it, except the sign of Jonah the prophet." And, leaving them, He departed.
And the Pharisees came out, and began to discuss with Him, seeking from Him a sign from heaven, tempting Him. And, sighing deeply in His spirit, He saith, "Why does this generation seek a sign? verily I say to you, there shall no sign be given to this generation."
Then some of the scribes and Pharisees answered Him, saying, "Teacher, we wish to see a sign from Thee." And He, answering, said to them, "An evil and adulterous generation is seeking after a sign; and no sign shall be given to it, except the sign of Jonah the prophet.
And as the multitudes were gathering together to Him, He began to say, "This generation is an evil generation: it is seeking a sign, and a sign shall not be given it, except the sign of Jonah.
And He said to the multitudes also, "When ye see a cloud rising in the west, straightway ye say 'A shower is coming!' and so it happens. And, when ye see a south wind blowing, ye say, 'There will be scorching heat!' and it comes to pass. Hypocrites! Ye know how to interpret the face of the earth and of the heavens but how is it ye know not how to interpret this time?
Now Herod, seeing Jesus, rejoiced exceedingly; for he was wishing for a long time to see Him, because he had heard concerning Him; and he was hoping to see some sign wrought by Him.
The Jews, therefore, answered and said to Him, "What sign dost Thou show to us, seeing that Thou doest these things?
Jesus, therefore, said to him, "Unless ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe."
They said, therefore, to Him, "What sign doest Thou, then, that we may see, and believe Thee? What doest Thou?
seeing that both Jews ask for signs, and Greeks seek after wisdom;
