Thou turnest man to destruction; and sayest, Return, ye children of men. For a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night. Thou carriest them away as with a flood; they are as a sleep; in the morning they are like grass which groweth.read more.
In the morning it flourisheth, and groweth; in the evening it is cut down, and withereth.

And why dost thou not pardon my transgression, and take away my iniquity? for now shall I sleep in the dust; and thou shalt seek me in the morning, but I shall not be.

But man dieth, and wasteth away: yes, man yieldeth his breath, and where is he? As the waters fail from the sea, and the flood decayeth and drieth up: So man lieth down, and riseth not: till the heavens shall be no more, they shall not awake, nor be raised out of their sleep.

Consider and hear me, O LORD my God: lighten my eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death;

And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.

He said to them, Give place: for the maid is not dead, but sleepeth. And they derided him.

And when he had come in, he saith to them, Why make ye this tumult, and weep? the damsel is not dead, but sleepeth.

And all wept and bewailed her: but he said, Weep not: she is not dead, but sleepeth. And they derided him, knowing that she was dead.

And I heard a voice from heaven, saying to me, Write, Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from henceforth: Verily, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors; and their works follow them.

These things he said: and after that he saith to them, Our friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go that I may awake him out of sleep. Then said his disciples, Lord, if he sleepeth he will do well. Now Jesus spoke of his death: but they thought that he had spoken of taking rest in sleep.read more.
Then said Jesus to them plainly, Lazarus is dead.

And he kneeled down and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. And when he had said this, he fell asleep.

After that he was seen by above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain to this present, but some have fallen asleep.

Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, And shall come forth; they that have done good to the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, to the resurrection of damnation.

O that thou wouldst hide me in the grave, that thou wouldst keep me secret, until thy wrath is past, that thou wouldst appoint me a set time, and remember me! If a man dieth, shall he live again? all the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change shall come. Thou shalt call, and I will answer thee: thou wilt have a desire to the work of thy hands.

As for me, I shall behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness.

Thy dead men shall live, together with my dead body shall they arise. Awake and sing, ye that dwell in dust: for thy dew is as the dew of herbs, and the earth shall cast out the dead.

And they that are wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.

And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by angels into Abraham's bosom. The rich man also died, and was buried: And in hell he lifted up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.

But now is Christ raised from the dead, and become the first-fruits of them that slept.

But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them who are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also who sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain to the coming of the Lord shall not precede them who are asleep.read more.
For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore, comfort one another with these words.

And I will make drunk her princes, and her wise men, her captains, and her rulers, and her mighty men: and they shall sleep a perpetual sleep, and not wake, saith the king, whose name is the LORD of hosts.

O LORD my God, if I have done this; if there is iniquity in my hands; If I have rewarded evil to him that was at peace with me; (yes, I have delivered him that without cause is my enemy:) Let the enemy persecute my soul, and take it; yes, let him tread down my life upon the earth, and lay my honor in the dust. The stout-hearted are spoiled, they have slept their sleep: and none of the men of might have found their hands.

In their heat I will make their feasts, and I will make them drunken, that they may rejoice, and sleep a perpetual sleep, and not wake, saith the LORD.
