Learn to do good;
Seek justice,
Reprove the ruthless,
Defend the orphan,
Plead for the widow.
Open your mouth, judge righteously,
And defend the rights of the afflicted and needy.
Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.
The King will answer and say to them, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me.’

If possible, so far as it depends on you, be at peace with all men.
He has told you, O man, what is good;
And what does the Lord require of you
But to do justice, to love kindness,
And to walk humbly with your God?
He executes justice for the orphan and the widow, and shows His love for the alien by giving him food and clothing.
“You shall not pervert the justice due an alien or an orphan, nor take a widow’s garment in pledge.
‘Cursed is he who distorts the justice due an alien, orphan, and widow.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’
“In everything, therefore, treat people the same way you want them to treat you, for this is the Law and the Prophets.
Vindicate the weak and fatherless;
Do justice to the afflicted and destitute.
He who oppresses the poor to make more for himself
Or who gives to the rich, will only come to poverty.
He who oppresses the poor taunts his Maker,
But he who is gracious to the needy honors Him.
The righteous is concerned for the rights of the poor,
The wicked does not understand such concern.
He who gives to the poor will never want,
But he who shuts his eyes will have many curses.

And by chance a priest was going down on that road, and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. On the next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper and said, ‘Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, when I return I will repay you.’ Which of these three do you think proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell into the robbers’ hands?” And he said, “The one who showed mercy toward him.” Then Jesus said to him, “Go and do the same.”
