It is not, however, as though God's word had failed! For they are not all Israel who have sprung from Israel; they are not all children of Abraham because they are Abraham's descendants. The promise was, In Isaac shall thy posterity be called. That is, it is not the children of the flesh who are children of God; but the children of the promise are counted as his posterity.

Be not unequally yoked with unbelievers; for what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? what communion has light with darkness? What concord has Christ with Belial? What portion has a believer with an unbeliever? And what compact has God's temple with idols? For we are a temple of the living God, as he has said: I will dwell among them, and walk about among them; I will be their God, and they will be my people.read more.

And now continue to abide in him, my children, so that when he shall appear we may have cheerful confidence and not be ashamed before him at his coming. If you know that he is righteous you know also that every one who habitually practices righteousness has been born of him.

Behold what manner of love the Father has given us in allowing us to be called "Children of God!" And that is what we are. For this reason the world does not recognize us, because it did not know him. We are God's children now, beloved; what we shall be has never yet been made manifest. But we know that when he is manifested we shall be like him; for we shall see him even as he is. And every one who is holding this hope in him is purifying himself, even as he is pure.

Whoever is a child of God cannot go on sinning, because his seed is abiding in him; and he cannot go on sinning because he is a child of God. In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil; for every one who does not work righteousness is not a child of God, nor is he who does not love his brother.

Every one who believes that Jesus is the Christ is a child of God; and every one who loves the Father, loves him also who is the Father's Child. By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments.

He who overcomes will inherit these, And I will be his God, And he shall be my son.
