in whom the god of this life has blinded the minds of the unbelieving, that the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the likeness of God, may not shine.
And this is the judgment; that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than the light, because their deeds are evil. For every one that does evil hates the light, and comes not to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved;
For this reason they could not believe, because, Isaiah said again, He has blinded their eyes, and hardened their hearts, that they should not see with their eyes and understand with their hearts, and be converted, and I should cure them.
This I say then and testify in the Lord, that you no longer walk as the other gentiles walk, in the vanity of their minds, with their understandings darkened, alienated from the life of God on account of the ignorance which is in them, on account of the hardness of their hearts, who being without feeling have given themselves up to lewdness, to commit every impurity with greediness.
