And immediately one of them, running, and taking a sponge, and filling it with vinegar, and fastening it to a pole, put it to him to drink. The others said, Let him alone, let us see whether Elias will come to save him. Then Jesus crying again with a loud voice gave up the ghost.

Now there was placed a vessel full of vinegar: they then filling a spunge with the vinegar, and putting it on a stick of hyssop, carried it to his mouth. When therefore Jesus had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and inclining his head, he surrendered up his spirit.
