Hear another parable. There was a householder, who planted a vineyard, and set a hedge about it, and dug in it a winepress, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went abroad.

And he began to speak to them in parables: A man planted a vineyard, and set a hedge about it, and dug a winevat, and built a tower; and let it out to husbandmen, and went abroad.

But what think ye? A man had two sons: he came to the first, and said, Son, go, work today in the vineyard. And he answered and said, I will not. Afterward he repented, and went. And he came to the other and said the same. And he answered and said, I will, sir; and went not.read more.

And when they had received it, they murmured against the householder, saying, These last have worked but one hour, and thou hast made them equal to us, who have borne the burden and heat of the day. And the husbandmen took his servants, and beat one, and killed another, and stoned another.read more.
Again he sent other servants more than the first; and they dealt with them in the same manner. And afterward he sent to them his son, saying, They will respect my son. But the husbandmen, when they saw the son, said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and get his inheritance. And they took him, and cast him out of the vineyard, and killed him. When therefore the lord of the vineyard cometh, what will he do to those husbandmen? They say to him, He will bring those wicked men to a miserable end, and will let out his vineyard to other husbandmen, who will render him the fruits in their season. Jesus saith to them, Did ye never read in the Scriptures, "The stone which the builders rejected, the same hath become the cornerstone; from the Lord did this come, and it is marvelous in our eyes?" Therefore I say to you, that the kingdom of God will be taken away from you, and given to a nation yielding the fruits thereof. (...)

And again he sent to them another servant; and him they wounded in the head, and treated shamefully. And he sent another; and him they killed; and many others, beating some, and killing some. Still he had one beloved son; he sent him last to them, saying, They will respect my son. But those husbandmen said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and the inheritance will be ours. And they took him and killed him, and cast him out of the vineyard. What will the lord of the vineyard do? He will come and destroy the husbandmen, and will give the vineyard to others. And have ye not read this scripture: "The stone which the builders rejected, the same hath become the cornerstone; from the Lord did this come, and it is marvelous in our eyes"?

And he began to speak to the people this parable: A man planted a vineyard, and let it out to husbandmen, and went abroad for a long time. And at the season he sent a servant to the husbandmen, that they should give him of the fruit of the vineyard; but the husbandmen beat him, and sent him away emptyhanded. And he sent still another servant; and they beat him also, and treated him shamefully, and sent him away emptyhanded.read more.
And he went on to send a third; and they wounded him also, and cast him out. And the lord of the vineyard said, What shall I do? I will send my beloved son; perhaps they will respect him. But when the husbandmen saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, This is the heir; let us kill him, that the inheritance may become ours. So they cast him out of the vineyard, and killed him. What then will the lord of the vineyard do to them? He will come and destroy these husbandmen, and will give the vineyard to others. And when they heard this, they said, God forbid! But he, looking upon them, said, What then is this which is written, "The stone which the builders rejected, the same hath become the cornerstone"? Every one who falleth upon that stone will be broken; but on whomever it falleth, it will grind him to powder.

He spoke also this parable: A certain man had a figtree planted in his vineyard; and he came seeking fruit thereon, and found none. Then said he to the vinedresser, Lo! three years I have come seeking fruit on this figtree, and have found none; cut it down; why cumbereth it the ground? And he answering saith to him, Lord, let it alone this year also; till I shall dig about it, and dung it;read more.
and if it bear fruit hereafter, well; but if not, thou shalt cut it down.

Who ever serveth as a soldier at his own charges? Who planteth a vineyard without eating its fruit? Or who tendeth a flock and doth not eat of the milk of the flock?
