And they said, "Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets."
And they told him, "John the Baptist; and others say, Elijah; and others, one of the prophets."
Now Herod the tetrarch heard about all that was happening, and he was perplexed, because it was said by some that John had been raised from the dead, by some that Elijah had appeared, and by others that one of the prophets of old had risen.
And they answered, "John the Baptist. But others say, Elijah, and others, that one of the prophets of old has risen."
and he said to his servants, "This is John the Baptist. He has been raised from the dead; that is why these miraculous powers are at work in him."
King Herod heard of it, for Jesus' name had become known. Some said, "John the Baptist has been raised from the dead. That is why these miraculous powers are at work in him."
And the crowds said, "This is the prophet Jesus, from Nazareth of Galilee."
Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary and brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon? And are not his sisters here with us?" And they took offense at him.
Is not this the carpenter's son? Is not his mother called Mary? And are not his brothers James and Joseph and Simon and Judas?
And all spoke well of him and marveled at the gracious words that were coming from his mouth. And they said, "Is not this Joseph's son?"
They said, "Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How does he now say, 'I have come down from heaven'?"
So Jesus came out, wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe. Pilate said to them, "Behold the man!"
But others said, "He is Elijah." And others said, "He is a prophet, like one of the prophets of old."
When the people saw the sign that he had done, they said, "This is indeed the Prophet who is to come into the world!"
All things have been handed over to me by my Father, and no one knows who the Son is except the Father, or who the Father is except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him."
Jesus answered her, "If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that is saying to you, 'Give me a drink,' you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water."
