'Lady' in the Bible

“Sit in silence, and go into darkness,O daughter of the Chaldeans;For you will no longer be calledThe queen of kingdoms.

Harness the chariot to the team of horses [to escape the invasion],O inhabitant of Lachish—She was the beginning of sinTo the Daughter of Zion (Jerusalem)—Because in you were foundThe rebellious acts of Israel.

Moreover, I will bring on youThe one who takes possession,O inhabitant of Mareshah (Prominent Place).The glory (nobility) of Israel will enter Adullam [seeking refuge].

The elder [of the church addresses this letter] to the elect (chosen) lady and her children, whom I love in truth—and not only I, but also all who know and understand the truth—

Now I ask you, lady, not as if I were writing to you a new commandment, but [simply reminding you of] the one which we have had from the beginning, that we love and unselfishly seek the best for one another.
