'Overwhelm' in the Bible

“Behold, He restrains the waters, and they dry up;Again, He sends the waters out, and they overwhelm and devastate the earth.

I have sunk in deep mire, where there is no foothold;I have come into deep waters, where a flood overwhelms me.

Do not let the floodwater overwhelm me,Nor the deep waters swallow me up,Nor the pit [of Sheol] shut its mouth over me.

“I will make justice the measuring lineAnd righteousness the mason’s level;Then hail will sweep away the refuge of liesAnd waters will flood over the secret [hiding] place.

“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;And through the rivers, they will not overwhelm you.When you walk through fire, you will not be scorched,Nor will the flame burn you.

“For the violence done to Lebanon will overwhelm you;The destruction of the animals will terrify youOn account of human bloodshed and the violence done to the land,To the city and all its inhabitants.
