'Played' in the Bible
Now, bring me a musician.”While the musician played, the Lord’s hand came on Elisha.
Asaph was the chief and Zechariah was second to him. Jeiel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Mattithiah, Eliab, Benaiah, Obed-edom, and Jeiel played the harps and lyres, while Asaph sounded the cymbals
Then I thought:They are just the poor;they have played the fool. For they don’t understand the way of the Lord, the justice of their God.
We played the flute for you,but you didn’t dance;we sang a lament, but you didn’t mourn!
They are like children sitting in the marketplace and calling to each other:We played the flute for you,but you didn’t dance;we sang a lament, but you didn’t weep!
Even inanimate things that produce sounds—whether flute or harp—if they don’t make a distinction in the notes, how will what is played on the flute or harp be recognized?
