'Adversity' in the Bible

See, today I have set before you life and prosperity, death and adversity.

“You speak as a foolish woman speaks,” he told her. “Should we accept only good from God and not adversity?” Throughout all this Job did not sin in what he said.

Now when Job’s three friends—Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite—heard about all this adversity that had happened to him, each of them came from his home. They met together to go and sympathize with him and comfort him.

All his brothers, sisters, and former acquaintances came to his house and dined with him in his house. They sympathized with him and comforted him concerning all the adversity the Lord had brought on him. Each one gave him a qesitah and a gold earring.

For He will conceal me in His shelterin the day of adversity;He will hide me under the cover of His tent;He will set me high on a rock.

They will not be disgraced in times of adversity;they will be satisfied in days of hunger.

For the choir director. A Davidic psalm.Happy is one who cares for the poor;the Lord will save him in a day of adversity.

Make us rejoice for as many days as You have humbled us,for as many years as we have seen adversity.

In the day of prosperity be joyful, but in the day of adversity, consider: God has made the one as well as the other, so that man cannot discover anything that will come after him.

So remember your Creator in the days of your youth:Before the days of adversity come,and the years approach when you will say,“I have no delight in them”;

Do not both adversity and goodcome from the mouth of the Most High?
