'Avail' in the Bible
If a person has a stubborn, rebellious son who pays no attention to his father or mother, and they discipline him to no avail,
Yet all this is of no avail to me so long as I see Mordecai the Jew sitting at the king's gate.
Because there is wrath, beware lest it take thee away through chastisement: then a great ransom could not avail thee.
Will thy cry avail, that thou be not in distress, Or all the forces of thy'strength?
“The sword that reaches him cannot avail,Nor the spear, the dart or the javelin.
Thou wast wearied by the multitude of thy ways; but thou saidst not, It is of no avail. Thou didst find a quickening of thy strength; therefore thou wast not sick of it.
“Behold, you are trusting in deceptive words to no avail.
Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, “Add your burnt offerings to your sacrifices and eat the meat.
The two kings, whose hearts are bent on evil, will speak lies at the same table but to no avail, for still the end will come at the appointed time.
Were you a slave when you were called? Do not worry about that [since your status as a believer is equal to that of a freeborn believer]; but if you are able to gain your freedom, do that.
Notice, it is I, Paul, who tells you that if you receive circumcision [as a supposed requirement of salvation], Christ will be of no benefit to you [for you will lack the faith in Christ that is necessary for salvation].
for I know [with confidence] that this will turn out for my deliverance and spiritual well-being, through your prayers and the [superabundant] supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ [which upholds me].
For a testament is of force where there hath been death: for it doth never avail while he that made it liveth.
