'Chastening' in the Bible

O Lord, they sought You in distress;They could only whisper a prayer,Your chastening was upon them.

But He was pierced through for our transgressions,He was crushed for our iniquities;The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him,And by His scourging we are healed.

“In vain I have struck your sons;They accepted no chastening.Your sword has devoured your prophetsLike a destroying lion.
