'Dowry' in the Bible
“If a man seduces a virgin who is not engaged, and lies with her, he must pay a dowry for her to be his wife.
If her father absolutely refuses to give her to him, he shall pay money equal to the dowry for virgins.
Saul then said, “Thus you shall say to David, ‘The king does not desire any dowry except a hundred foreskins of the Philistines, to take vengeance on the king’s enemies.’” Now Saul planned to make David fall by the hand of the Philistines.
For Pharaoh king of Egypt had gone up and captured Gezer and burned it with fire, and killed the Canaanites who lived in the city, and had given it as a dowry to his daughter, Solomon’s wife.
