'Father' in the Bible
Elisha saw it and cried out, “My father, my father, the chariots of Israel and its horsemen!” And he saw Elijah no more. Then he took hold of his own clothes and tore them in two pieces.
He did evil in the sight of the Lord, though not like his father and his mother; for he put away the sacred pillar of Baal which his father had made.
Now Elisha said to the king of Israel, “What do I have to do with you? Go to the prophets of your father and to the prophets of your mother.” And the king of Israel said to him, “No, for the Lord has called these three kings together to give them into the hand of Moab.”
When the child was grown, the day came that he went out to his father to the reapers.
He said to his father, “My head, my head.” And he said to his servant, “Carry him to his mother.”
Then his servants came near and spoke to him and said, “My father, had the prophet told you to do some great thing, would you not have done it? How much more then, when he says to you, ‘Wash, and be clean’?”
Then the king of Israel when he saw them, said to Elisha, “My father, shall I kill them? Shall I kill them?”
Then Jehu said to Bidkar his officer, “Take him up and cast him into the property of the field of Naboth the Jezreelite, for I remember when you and I were riding together after Ahab his father, that the Lord laid this oracle against him:
When Elisha became sick with the illness of which he was to die, Joash the king of Israel came down to him and wept over him and said, “My father, my father, the chariots of Israel and its horsemen!”
Then Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz took again from the hand of Ben-hadad the son of Hazael the cities which he had taken in war from the hand of Jehoahaz his father. Three times Joash defeated him and recovered the cities of Israel.
He did right in the sight of the Lord, yet not like David his father; he did according to all that Joash his father had done.
Now it came about, as soon as the kingdom was firmly in his hand, that he killed his servants who had slain the king his father.
All the people of Judah took Azariah, who was sixteen years old, and made him king in the place of his father Amaziah.
He did right in the sight of the Lord, according to all that his father Amaziah had done.
He did what was right in the sight of the Lord; he did according to all that his father Uzziah had done.
And Jotham slept with his fathers, and he was buried with his fathers in the city of David his father; and Ahaz his son became king in his place.
Ahaz was twenty years old when he became king, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem; and he did not do what was right in the sight of the Lord his God, as his father David had done.
He did right in the sight of the Lord, according to all that his father David had done.
“Return and say to Hezekiah the leader of My people, ‘Thus says the Lord, the God of your father David, “I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears; behold, I will heal you. On the third day you shall go up to the house of the Lord.
For he rebuilt the high places which Hezekiah his father had destroyed; and he erected altars for Baal and made an Asherah, as Ahab king of Israel had done, and worshiped all the host of heaven and served them.
He did evil in the sight of the Lord, as Manasseh his father had done.
For he walked in all the way that his father had walked, and served the idols that his father had served and worshiped them.
He did right in the sight of the Lord and walked in all the way of his father David, nor did he turn aside to the right or to the left.
His servants drove his body in a chariot from Megiddo, and brought him to Jerusalem and buried him in his own tomb. Then the people of the land took Jehoahaz the son of Josiah and anointed him and made him king in place of his father.
Pharaoh Neco made Eliakim the son of Josiah king in the place of Josiah his father, and changed his name to Jehoiakim. But he took Jehoahaz away and brought him to Egypt, and he died there.
He did evil in the sight of the Lord, according to all that his father had done.
