'Haughty' in the Bible
Since you are still [arrogantly] exalting yourself [in defiance] against My people by not letting them go,
All these cities were fortified and unassailable with their high walls, gates, and bars; in addition, [there were] a very great number of unwalled villages.
“And You save the afflicted people;But Your eyes are on the haughty whom You abase (humiliate).
For You save an afflicted and humble people,But bring down those [arrogant fools] with haughty eyes.
Whoever secretly slanders his neighbor, him I will silence;The one who has a haughty look and a proud (arrogant) heart I will not tolerate.
Lord, my heart is not proud, nor my eyes haughty;Nor do I involve myself in great matters,Or in things too difficult for me.
Though the Lord is exalted,He regards the lowly [and invites them into His fellowship];But the proud and haughty He knows from a distance.
Pride goes before destruction,And a haughty spirit before a fall.
“Proud,” “Haughty,” “Scoffer,” are his namesWho acts with overbearing and insolent pride.
For the Lord of hosts will have a day of reckoningAgainst all who are proud and arrogantAnd against all who are lifted up,That they may be degraded.
Moreover, the Lord said, “Because the daughters of Zion are proudAnd walk with outstretched necks and seductive (flirtatious, alluring) eyes,And trip along with mincing steps and an affected gaitAnd walk with jingling anklets on their feet,
So the common man will be bowed down and the man of importance degraded,And the eyes of the proud (arrogant) will be degraded.
They were haughty and committed repulsive acts before Me; therefore I removed them when I saw it.
“On that day you [Israel] will feel no shameBecause of all your actsBy which you have rebelled and sinned against Me;Then I will remove from among youYour rejoicing ones who delight in their pride;And you will never again behave arrogantlyOn My holy mountain [Mount Zion].
