'Lift' in the Bible
When you lift up your hands in prayer,I will refuse to look at you;even if you offer countless prayers,I will not listen.Your hands are covered with blood.
Does an ax exalt itselfabove the one who chops with it?Does a saw magnify itselfabove the one who saws with it?It would be like a staff waving the one who lifts it!It would be like a rod lifting a man who isn’t wood!
He will lift up a banner for the nationsand gather the dispersed of Israel;He will collect the scattered of Judahfrom the four corners of the earth.
Lift up a banner on a barren mountain.Call out to them.Wave your hand, and they will gothrough the gates of the nobles.
“Now I will rise up,” says the Lord.“Now I will lift Myself up.Now I will be exalted.
They lift it to their shoulder and bear it along;they set it in its place, and there it stands;it does not budge from its place.They cry out to it but it doesn’t answer;it saves no one from his trouble.
This is what the Lord God says:Look, I will lift up My hand to the nations,and raise My banner to the peoples.They will bring your sons in their arms,and your daughters will be carried on their shoulders.
The voices of your watchmen—they lift up their voices,shouting for joy together;for every eye will seewhen the Lord returns to Zion.
