'Shepherd's' in the Bible
Then he took his [shepherd’s] staff in his hand and chose for himself five smooth stones out of the stream bed, and put them in his shepherd’s bag which he had, that is, in his shepherd’s pouch. With his sling in his hand, he approached the Philistine.
But God led His own people forward like sheepAnd guided them in the wilderness like [a good shepherd with] a flock.
“Oh, that you were like a brother to me,Who nursed at the breasts of my mother. If I found you out of doors, I would kiss you;No one would blame me or despise me, either.
“My dwelling (body) is pulled up and removed from me like a shepherd’s tent;I have rolled up my life as a weaver [rolls up the finished web].He cuts me free from the warp [of the loom];From day to night You bring me to an end.
So I [Zechariah] pastured the flock doomed for slaughter, truly [as the name implies] the most miserable of sheep. And I took two [shepherd’s] staffs, the one I called Favor (Grace) and the other I called Union (Bonds); so I pastured the flock.
