For, as sheep, ye were going astray; but now ye returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.

And, seeing the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were harassed and scattered, as sheep having no shepherd.

But He, answering, said, "I was not sent, except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel."

"Verily, verily, I say to you, he that enters not through the door into the fold of the sheep, but climbs up some other way, he is a thief and a robber. When he drives out all his own, he goes on before them, and the sheep follow him; because they know his voice. But a stranger they will in no wise follow, but will flee from him; because they know not the voice of strangers." This parable spake Jesus to them; but they understood not what things they were which He spake to them. Jesus, therefore, said to them again, "Verily, verily, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. All who came before Me are thieves and robbers; but the sheep did not hear them. I am the door; through Me if any one enter, he shall be saved, and shall go in and go out, and find pasture. The thief comes not, but that he may steal, and kill, and destroy: I came, that they may have life, and that they may have it abundantly. I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his soul for the sheep. I am the Good Shepherd; and I know My own, and My own know Me, even as the Father knoweth Me, and I know the Father; and I lay down My soul for the sheep. And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they will hear My voice; and they shall become one flock, one Shepherd.

The Jews, therefore, came round about Him, and said to Him, "How long dost Thou hold us in suspense? If Thou art the Christ, tell us plainly." Jesus answered them, "I told you, and ye did not believe: the works that I do in My Father's name, these testify concerning Me. But ye believe not, because ye are not of My sheep.

"What man of you, having a hundred sheep, and losing one of them, does not leave behind the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after the lost one, until he finds it? And, finding it, he places it upon his shoulders, rejoicing: and, coming to his house, he calls together his friends and neighbors, saying, Rejoice with me, because I found my sheep, which was lost. read more.
I say to you, that so there will be joy in Heaven over one sinner that repents, more than over ninety-nine righteous men who have no need of repentance.

["For the Son of Man came to save that which was lost."] "What think ye? If a hundred sheep belong to a certain man, and one of them goes astray, will he not leave the ninety and nine on the mountains, and, going, seek the straying one? And, if it happen that he find it, verily I say to you, he rejoices over it more than over the ninety and nine that have not gone astray.
