'Shortened' in the Bible

"{His strong steps} are shortened, and his [own] schemes throw him down,

The fear of Yahweh adds life, but the years of the wicked are shortened.

Should [this] be said, O house of Jacob? Is the patience of Yahweh shortened? [Are] these his deeds? Are my words not pleasing to him who walks upright?
