Detailed Stipulations: Purity And Unity

⁹ When you come into the land that Jehovah your God gives you, do not follow the disgusting practices of the nations that are there. ¹⁰ There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, one who uses divination, one who practices witchcraft, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, ¹¹ Do not allow them to consult the spirits of the dead.

He burned sacrifices in the valley of Ben Hinnom. He sacrificed his son by burning him alive. This was one of the disgusting things done by the nations that Jehovah had driven out from the land Israel possessed.

People will say to you: Ask for help from the mediums and the fortunetellers, who whisper and mutter. Should people ask their God for help instead? Why should they ask the dead to help the living?

Jeremiah 19:4-6
