But He answered and said to them, “An evil and adulterous generation craves for a sign; and yet no sign will be given to it but the sign of Jonah the prophet;

Sighing deeply in His spirit, He *said, “Why does this generation seek for a sign? Truly I say to you,

no sign will be given to this generation.”

And with many other words he solemnly testified and kept on exhorting them, saying, “Be saved from this perverse generation!”

And the Lord appointed a great fish to swallow Jonah, and Jonah was in the stomach of the fish three days and three nights.

As the crowds were increasing, He began to say, “This generation is a wicked generation; it seeks for a sign, and yet no sign will be given to it but the sign of Jonah.

And he

Let them alone; they are blind guides of the blind. And if a blind man guides a blind man, both will fall into a pit.”

Then the Lord said, “My Spirit shall not strive with man forever,

because he also is flesh; nevertheless his days shall be one hundred and twenty years.”

Ephraim is joined to idols;

Let him alone.

Yet I will bereave them until not a man is left.
Yes, woe to them indeed when I depart from them!

And they began to implore Him to leave their region.

But when they resisted and blasphemed, he shook out his garments and said to them, “Your blood be on your own heads! I am clean. From now on I will go to the Gentiles.”
